Simulate circuit design using Logisim

Affiliation: University of Thessaly
Resolution: Individual, Group
Duration: Less than an hour, One to two hours, Two to four hours, More than four hours

Overview

Goals

This activity allows students to design and simulate digital logic circuits through the Logisim digital simulating tool. The tool features a simple-to-learn interface, hierarchical circuits, wire bundles, and a large component library. As a Java application, it can run on many platforms.

Learning Objectives

Upon using this tool learners will be able to: - Design circuits using an intuitive graphical interface - Watch the circuits be simulated as they are drawn - Build circuits from truth tables using combinational analysis module

Context

The digital tool may be deployed in the context of digital circuit design courses for practical, hands-on experimentation that build learner experience on circuit design. It can complement theoretical instruction and educational activities that take place in physical labs, allowing students additional time for practice. and additional exposure of students to hands-on circuit design that can take place in the computer lab or at home on a regular PC. The tools allows flexibility encouraging students to engage in circuit design activities lifting time or location constraints.
