Goals

Experience the world-famous "Secret Annex" of the Anne Frank House in a never before seen way. Travel back to the years of the Second World War and wander through the rooms of the Secret Annex, where Anne Frank, her family and four other Jews hid from Nazi persecution during WW2. Immerse yourself in Anne's thoughts as you traverse each faithfully recreated room, fully restored thanks to the power of VR, and find out what happened to the Annex' brave inhabitants.

Learning Objectives

In the course of participating in this VR project, students will: • learn about historical events through a time line. • understand how events in Europe during the Nazi's rise to power and the subsequent Holocaust impacted the lives of real people. • develop empathy for people, Jewish and non-Jewish, who were directly affected by the Holocaust. • become familiar with terms and places associated with the Holocaust. • improve content-area reading skills. • learn to do online research.

Context

The Anne Frank House VR app is available for visitors to the Anne Frank House who have limited mobility: those who cannot climb the stairs to visit the secret annex. The virtual reality tour is already used by dozens of other museums and institutions all over the world. In this way, institutions such as the Anne Frank Centre for Mutual Respect in New York, the Anne Frank Centre in Berlin, Centro Ana Frank Argentina in Buenos Aires and the Instituto Plataforma Brasil in Sao Paolo, Brazil use the tour for education purposes. There are also museums in the United States and Asia which use the app as part of their exhibition.The VR app is suitable for Oculus Go, Rift and Quest and Gear VR.
