The videogame teaching involves developing a videogame, the PBL seems an appropriate instructional methodology.
The development of software for videogames should be taught not only as a tool of interest for individualized learning, but also as a support for team learning and the creation of information. PBL was considered also because teamwork is proposed to carry out learning in work teams during its application.
Larmer et al. presented their gold standard for the PBL based on 7 elements to start, develop and finish a project: a challenging problem, sustained consultation, authenticity, voice and student choice, critical reflection and review, and a public product. The use of these elements in the design of this approach guarantees a learning experience to acquire the knowledge for creating a proper project. For a student to learn, the student must identify the difficulties and mistakes during the development process. This phase is accompanied by the basic definition the reinforces the conceptualization of the workflow in the development of projects to be able to overcome them; this is an intentional exercise. According to PBL, this is self-regulation learning, which is a self-directed process through which learners transform their mental abilities into academic skills.
For PBL to support students during their learning process, two fundamental elements are uses: evaluation strategies and classroom management in collaborative workgroups, which matches the teamwork process for videogames.
In the subject of simulation, it is sought that students acquire skills and integrate theoretical and practical knowledge and relate them to a project that might solve a social issue as a final product. The PBL integrated into the video game development process is an integral methodology where teaching expectations and on a functional product.**The text is part of the book “Trends and Applications in Software Engineering: Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Software Process Improvement (CIMPS 2019) by Jezreel Mejia, Mirna Muñoz, ‘Alvaro Rocha, Jose A.
